A Dog's Purpose

A devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) goes on a quest to discover his purpose in life over the course of several reincarnations and the many owners to whom he belonged. Along the way, he ponders such existential questions as "Why does food taste better in the trash?" and "What is the meaning of life?"

Going through several names throughout his time, including Toby, Bailey and Buddy, he arrives at the answers to some of his questions via his interactions with the humans he loves, and the lessons about love that he teaches them.

Based on the bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron.

Ballerina

An orphan girl (Elle Fanning) has big dreams of becoming a ballerina. Her friend Victor (Dane DeHaan) decides to help her run away from the small town where they live in order to get her into a ballet school in Paris.

Although she has no formal training, she gets a position as a pupil at the prestigious school. It soon becomes clear that she has a lot of work to do in order to keep up with the other students, who've been training for years. She will dance off against her rival ballerina Camille (Maddie Ziegler), for a coveted part in the ballet recital.

Beauty and the Beast

Belle (Emma Watson) lives in a small town in France with her loving father, Maurice (Kevin Kline). He leaves on a trip to the market and when his horse comes back without him, Belle goes looking for him. The horse leads her to an enchanted castle, where Belle finds Maurice imprisoned in a tower by The Beast (Dan Stevens). She offers herself as a prisoner in exchange for her father's release.

The Beast was once a vain, arrogant and handsome prince until an Enchantress cast a spell on him. The Enchantress leaves a rose in a glass case, telling him that when the last petal falls, if he has not found someone to love him, he'll remain a Beast forever, and his servants will become inanimate objects without personalities.

Belle finds to her amazement that the household objects in the castle are alive, and can talk. They wonder if she's "the one" and tell her the Beast is not as terrible as he appears. She slowly gets to know his softer side, just as the townsfolk are preparing to rescue her.

CHIPS

Based on the popular '70s television series of the same name, this spoof film adaptation centers around an FBI agent who is given the alias Francis "Ponch" Poncherello (Michael Peña) and rookie Jon Baker (Dax Shepard).

The two meet when they're put together as partners to go undercover to expose crooked cops within the California Highway Patrol. Jon is excited about it, because he feels the fancy new uniform will impress his wife and save his marriage. While Ponch feels Jon is too intimate with other people, Jon sees Ponch as being too tough and lacking emotion and has a great time teasing him about it.

When they discover the dirty cops are carjackers, led by Vic Brown (Vincent D’Onofrio), they have to come up with a plan to take them down.

Seventy years before Harry Potter reads writer Newt Scamander's (Eddie Redmayne) book in school, the author enjoys adventures in New York's secret community of witches and wizards.

The spinoff film takes place in 1926, as Newt travels the globe to find and document magical creatures. But after completing a global excursion and arriving in New York for a brief stopover, his misplaced magical case leads to the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts in the No-Maj (American equivalent of "Muggle") world.

Based on the novel written by famed author J.K. Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter books. She also wrote the screenplay for this movie.

The crew is elated, but their excitement soon takes a turn when the creature, which initially appeared harmless, attacks one of the astronauts (Ariyon Bakare). The sudden attack creates terror and uncertainty among the crew as they try to figure out what to do in order to make sure the alien does not come with them back to Earth, where it could become a massive threat to humans.

Lion

A five-year-old Indian boy, Saroo, goes with his older brother, Guddu, to beg for money at a train station. When Saroo gets separated from his brother, he climbs on a train to search for him and winds up many miles away from his home.

Unable to tell the police exactly where he's from, the little boy is eventually declared an abandoned child. He ends up at the Indian Society for Sponsorship and Adoption, where's he's soon adopted by an Australian couple (Nicole Kidman, David Wenham).

When Saroo grows up and becomes a young man (Dev Patel), he wants to find his biological family and uses Google Earth to help him narrow his search.

Based on the autobiographical book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley.

The cast also includes Elza van den Heever as Elettra, Nadine Sierra as Ilia, Alice Coote as Idamante, and Alan Opie as Arbace.
